Leave in Winter

When you leave the cabin in cold weather it is important that the water system is completely shut off and properly drained.

Start inside:

  1. Breaker box above the refrigerator
    • Turn off breaker #13 (doghouse power)
    • Turn off breakers #10 & 11 (bedroom heat)
    • Turn off breakers 2 & 7/8 (hot water heat)

Now go outside (take a crescent wrench with you):

  1. Go to the pump house (down by the ditch)
    • Turn pump switches off (two middle switches)
    • Leave light bulb switches on (two outside switches)
  2. At the power pole leave switches on
  3. Find the main line drain valve near the fence and open with a ΒΌ counter clock- wise turn with your handy crescent wrench
  4. Go into the doghouse beneath the cabin
    • Open the red drain valve on the water line by turning counter-clockwise
    • Open the red drain valve on the water tank by turning counter-clockwise
  5. Open the outside faucet valve by turning counter clock-wise

Now go back inside . . .

  1. Bathroom
    • Disconnect toilet water supply hose
    • Open sink faucets
    • Open shower faucets
    • Flush toilet
    • Pump out water from toilet bowl and tank (hand pump is in closet)
    • Add a generous amount of RV antifreeze to tank and bowl
  2. Kitchen
    • Turn off light under sink
    • Open hot water tank drain valve in hole at bottom of unit by turning counter clock-wise
    • Open kitchen sink faucets
    • Pour 2 cups of RV antifreeze into kitchen sink drain

WHEN YOU LEAVE, ALL VALVES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE SHOULD BE OPEN. ALL ELECTRICAL DEVICES SHOULD BE OFF, ESPECIALLY BREAKER #13.
